Suicide Truck Bomb Explodes At Police Training Center In Zliten, Libya Killing 60

At least sixty people have been killed and mostly policemen Thursday in a truck bomb explosion in the western Libyan town of Zliten. Two hundred others were injured.

No group has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack but it is believed to be an act of Islamic State affiliate Asmaq that has been lately trying to gain control in the oil rich area.

The deadly attack has been strongly condemned by UN special envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, who has also urged in a Twitter message for the Libyans to untie against terrorism.

Rescue crews reached the blast scene hours after the deadly attack in the police training center and have managed to extract sixty bodies out of the wreckage.

The attack occurred when the policemen gathered for a morning assembly. The training base currently housed about 400 recruits.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Thursday Washington has not yet determined who is responsible for the deadly attack in Zliten that sits about 40 miles west of Misrata and 105 miles east of the Libyan capital city of Tripoli.

Since the downfall of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in 2011 the country has been lacking stability and Libyans are mostly divided based on politics and religion.
