About three dozen people were killed Saturday in two suicide attacks on two Syrian security offices in the central city of Homs, the third-largest city in the country and it is largely in the control of the government.

A senior security official too is learned been killed in the twin attacks.

Levant Liberation Committee, an al-Qaeda-linked insurgent coalition, has taken the credit of the attacks on their Telegram channel.

According to the group five of their attackers stormed the two offices and bombs were detonated at the checkpoints too while rescuers were arriving.

Homs Province governor Talal Barzani said a total of three blasts were heard and the attackers detonated suicide belts in the two offices which are about 1.2 miles apart.

State TV reported Brigadier Ibrahim Darwish was critically wounded in the attacks.

Darwish heads the State Security Branch of the feared Military Intelligence services, which is alleged along with other three security branches by human rights watchdog Amnesty International to have mass hanged between 5,000 and 13,000 people between 2011 and 2015 in the military’s Saydnaya prison in Damascus..

Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group claims 42 security officers were killed.

Rights groups blame different branches responsible for the shadowy crimes as they have little judicial oversight and enjoy great powers.
