United States Launches Reprisal Airstrike in Iraq Against the Rocket Attack

The United States has launched airstrike in Iraq in retaliation for the rocket attack that wounded and killed American and British troops. Regarding the strike, officials said that a series of airstrikes were launched by the US hiit five locations. The main target of the US manned aircraft were the weapon facilities of Kataib Hezbollah inside Iraq.   

All the officials blamed the Shia group for the strike on Wednesday at Taji camp near Bagdad. During the strike, in a rocket barrage, one UK and two US service members were killed. Moreover, 14 service members were wounded during the strike.

Regarding the strike Marke Esper, secretary of Defense said “You don’t get to shoot at our bases and kill and wound Americans and get away with it” 

Alyssa Farah, the Pentagon spokeswoman said that “This evening, the US conducted defensive precision strikes against Kata’ib Hezbollah facilities across Iraq. The strikes targeted five weapon storage facilities to significantly degrade their ability to conduct future attacks against the US and coalition forces. ”

She further said “these strikes were defensive, proportional and in direct response to the threat posed by Iranian-backed Shia militia groups who continue to attack bases hosting… coalition forces

The Pentagon has not revealed any information regarding the number of casualties. In Thursday’s retaliatory bombing, each of the identified targets is believed to comprise the facilities that stocked weapons utilised to target US and coalition troops.

Regarding the attack, the defence secretary of Britain Ben Wallace said that “The coalition stands shoulder to shoulder in Iraq.. When we and others were attacked we reserve the right to defend ourselves. We support the right of the United STates to defend themselves as they have done tonight.”
