However, it is not to forget amid comments and allegations the Russian aerial campaign helped Syria in regaining control of eastern Aleppo from Islamic State. This resulted with heightened tensions too with the US.

US Lt Gen Ben Hodges said the disregard of Russia for civilian casualties does not seems like conduct of a nation looking to be treated like a superpower.

It is said a total of 162 types of modern armaments were tested on Syria soil and those included 18,800 aerial sorties.

Hodges added, “What we see in Syria of course is a demonstration of capabilities and using weapons that are not necessary.”

Meanwhile, it is well known US President-elect Donald Trump wants to keep better relations with Russia.

At the defence ministry’s final meeting this year the Russian President Vladimir Putin said currently their military strength is stronger than any potential aggressor.

Putin added further the country need to strengthen the military potential of strategic nuclear forces.
