Apple To Make iPhones In India

Soon some of the iPhone devices to bear the tag of “Made in India.” If believed to Indian IT minister for Karnataka state, Priyank Kharge, Apple will be making some of its smartphones in Bangaluru city.

Kharge tweeted Thursday, “Apple’s intentions to make iPhones in Bengaluru will foster cutting-edge technology ecosystem & supply chain development in the state.”

Briefing to the local press the minister expressed his approval for the iDevice giant’s proposal to commence initial manufacturing operations in Karnataka state.

It is to note here Bangalore is already home to the design and development center of Apple iOS.

India is a huge potential market for Apple as it is the second most populous country in the world. The company sold last year about 2.5 million iPhones here.

In the fourth quarter of last year the company sold a record 78.3 million iPhones across the world.

Few weeks ago Apple had released a statement that reads they are working hard to develop their operations in India.

Apple added, “We’ve been working hard to develop our operations in India and are proud to deliver the best products and services in the world to our customers here. We appreciate the constructive and open dialogue we’ve had with government about further expanding our local operations.”
