Tourism Dropped Further In Turkey After Failed Coup Attempt

On the night of July 15 and 16 in Turkey when the coup tried toppling the government the Intrepid Travel had seven groups in the country. Some of the guests were finishing up the tours while othres continued with their tours after the dust settled. Several tourists decided to cut their vacations short and opted to leave the land to the earliest possible time citing safety as first priority.

Tourism Dropped Further In Turkey After Failed Coup Attempt

The coup attempt was quashed within a few hours and later on July 18 the United States Department updated travel warning to reconsider travel to Turkey.

Three days later the Turkey government declared state of emergency and CEO of the travel risk-management company Global Rescue, Dan Richards, said the short-term effects are not good as central government instability makes travelers nervous.

The failed coup attempt resulted with latest blow to Turkish tourism that is already suffering from drop following incidences like a terrorist assault on Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport that killed 42 people.

Over the period of past eighteen months the country has witnessed series of terrorist attacks including some popular tourist attractions.

Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported sharp drop in number of foreign visitors lately.

To reattract tourists to Turkey there should be a stable government that can give confidence of safety among visitors to the country.
