With the launch of Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus today at an event in San Francisco the good news comes as the base flash memory has been upgraded to 32GB.

The iDevice giant has vanished the 16GB on-board storage and it should be as with time the photos, vidoes and apps are increasing in sizes.

In 2007 when Apple first launched its iPhone the base memory was just 4GB, which is now a laughable thing. Then the memory was used to store apps, music, videos, photos and iOS that runs the device. Over the years the 4GB became inadequate to accommodate high-resolution videos, photos and increased size of apps to look good on high-resolution Retina screens. Today’s phones are also used for watching live television channels and movies. The iOS operating system too has become bigger.

However, analysts say the 16GB memory too would become not enough in couple of years duration if the trend of high-resolution continues.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is launched with 32GB, 128GB and 256GB on-board storage.

IHS analyst Ian Fogg said, “Even consumers who use few apps but who use the iPhone 7 camera may appreciate the larger storage quantities in the new iPhone range.”
