Bye Bye Bikinis, Welcome Athlete Wear In Miss Teen USA Pageant

Its a bye bye bikinis for Miss Teen USA. The bathing suit has now been officially removed from the competition.

In a released statement the Miss Universe organization said the girls will be judged in an athletic wear competition henceforth and not in swimsuits.

It is said with the change the organization seems to support for feminism and equality.

The organization added a brand-new athletic wear competition will prove athleticism and also it will feel less exploitative. The physical fitness of the younger participants could be judged.

Katherine Haik, reigning Miss Teen USA, said she agrees with the decision of the organization as she was an athlete in her life and had spent a lot of time in athletic wear.

Haik is also a member of a competitive dance team and a football team. She added the change is a great way to celebrate active lives.

Paula Shugart, Miss Universe president, the change is hoped to be celebrating strength, confidence and beauty of women.

She added the new decision to help fans of the pageant in recognizing young women. Its a cultural shift and encourages others in the communities.

Last week the first openly gay woman was crowned as Miss Missouri – Erin O’Flaherty.

Earlier in June Deshauna Barber became the first military member to become Miss District of Columbia.
