Facebook Launching Notify News App Next Week

Next week Facebook users can enjoy a new news app Notify. It will be a new standalone news app of the social giant to provide news content in real-time from media partners like CBS, Washington Post and Vogue.

Previously too Facebook had tied up with several media partners including BBC News, The Atlantic, BuzzFeed, Billboard, National Geographic, The Guardian, the New York Times, Spiegel and NBC for a news app for iOS called Instant Articles.

The new app seems to be directly competing with Twitter’s similar service dubbed as Moments that aims at providing trending news instantly to mobile users.

Insiders say the Notify was in testing over the summer.

Meanwhile, it is reported Facebook has generated $2.9 billion in ad revenue in the second quarter. Report of third-quarter is awaited later on Wednesday.

The social giant has seen huge success in attracting users to its mobile apps and the most popular of those is the Messenger App.

In the past one year monthly active users on smartphone has jumped by 23 percent to 1.3 billion.

It is said over three quarters of the ad revenue for Facebook comes from mobile devices.

Apart from all these, it is also not to forget Facebook didn’t get much success with its Poke and Slingshot apps. The first is similar to Snapchat and the second is a video chat app.
