MTV Strips Award From Nigeria’s WizKid, Crowns To Tanzania’s Alikiba

First the MTV Europe Award for the Best Africa Act was crowned to Nigeria’s Wizkid, some four days ago, but lately he was stripped of the title and Tanzania’s musician Alikiba grabbed it.

The mistake was made by the MTV Europe Music Awards on a different logic. The award was subject to a public vote, but the team made it subject to discussion after the votes.

In the votes Alikiba emerged as the winner, as showed by the MTV Europe Music Awards, and WizKid was declared as the winner by MTVbase Africa.

On the day of MTV award ceremony Alikiba was away and was performing at Tigo Fiesta climax at Leaders Club in Dar es Salaam.

Alikiba’s agent Christine Mosha said following the new announcement from MTV team she tried contacting MTV Africa constantly for an explanation.

MTV Europe Music Award admitted the mistake and said both the artists were winner but in different categories.

Mosha said, “Alikiba had won the MTV Europe Music Best Africa Act category, whereas Wizkid had won the MTV Europe Music Best Worldwide Act.”

However, it is not very clear who was responsible for the mistake and an official statement from the MTV team regarding clarification is awaited.

On his Facebook page the Tanzanian singer wrote they have got the confirmation about the award coming back to them.
