Resident of Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila has been attacked and burned down on Monday in Musienene and is believed to be the act of so-called Mai-Mai armed group who tried stealing goods from the building.

The house is located near the village of Musienene in North Kivu province, east of DRC. Kabila was not at his building when the property was torched, overnight from Sunday to Monday.

As of now information is still awaited as to who was responsible. Local government official said one policeman died and burned.

Currently the country is undergoing political crisis amid Kabila’s refusal to step down after expiry of his mandate about a year ago. Lately the militia violence and political unrest have seen rising.

A press statement released by lawmakers reads, “We firmly condemn this barbarous act and call on the population … to disassociate from any actions likely to compromise peace and development in this part of the country.”

Congo was under war between 1998-2003 that killed millions of people and mostly from hunger and disease.

A joined operation was lately launched by the armies of Congo and neighboring Uganda against Congo-based Islamist rebel group Ugandan Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

The group is suspected being involved in the December 8 attack in which 15 Tanzanian peacekeepers and five Congolese soldiers were killed.
