Tanzanian President John Magufuli has lately cracked down heavily in the civil servants sector and ordered Friday immediate removal of about 10,000 workers from their posts as they have been found to have submitted fake academic as well as professional certificates.

Magufuli said they are thieves as they have stolen money from the government in the form of salaries and what they have done is a criminal offence.

A total of 9,832 people in civil servants workforce have been uncovered with fake documents and names of such people will be published in all the leading media in the country to shame them.

The president added their posts will be declared vacant and others with valid and relevant documents can apply.

The country has lost Tsh257.94 ($114.15 million) until now paying salaries to the fake workers, mentioned Magufuli.

He continued, “I am giving them up to May 15 to leave voluntarily, failing which the law must take its course. If found guilty, they should be imprisoned for seven years according to the law.”

Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration, Local Government, Civil Service and Good Governance, Angella Kairuki, said no stones will be left unturned in verifying the credentials of the new applications for the vacant posts.
