Brexit Procedures Information

The prime minister said it is possible to give a running commentary of the Brexit negotiations as it won’t work. History has evidence negotiations failed when interlocutors predicted the outcome in detail and also in advance as well.

May added, “Every stray word and every hyped up media report is going to make it harder for us to get the right deal for Britain, so we have to stay patient… But when there are things to say – as there are today – we will keep the public informed and up to date.”

Initiating Article 50

May said delaying the initiation of Article 50 has a good reason and they will invoke it after the end of 2016. Ahead of it negotiating strategy need to be developed.

The PM mentioned there is uncertainty in initiating the Brexit, but sky has not fallen and it is not to forget the country’s economy remains strong.

Role of Parliament

The government need to trigger Article 50 and it is neither up to the House of Lords or House of Commons, said May.

She added, “Those people who argue that Article 50 can only be triggered after agreement in both Houses of Parliament are not standing up for democracy, they’re trying to subvert it.”
