Born as Ellen Lee DeGeneres, the American comedian, TV presenter, writer, actress and producer disclosed her lesbianism in 1997 that sparked intense interest by tabloids. In terms of gay rights and LGBT issues she is the most influential celeb.

She married actress Portia De Rossi in 2008 after California lifted ban on same-sex marriage. Earlier she had relationship with actress Anne Heche and actress, director and photographer Alexandra Hedison.

The American comedian, actress, author and TV personality disclosed her sexuality in 2002 saying she is a lesbian and it is not understood why people make such a big deal about the gay thing.

She had protested in Florida to bring attention about gay adoption issue. In 2002 she became “Person of the Year” by The Advocate and the next year she became a columnist to the magazine.

She wedded former Nickelodeon marketing executive Kelli Carpenter in February 2004
