Turkey has further cracked down on journalists after arresting or suspending teachers, police officers, soliders, judges, bureaucrats and more.

More than forty reporters have been detained and among those is well-known commentator and former parliamentarian Nazi Llicak.

Earlier, several reporters were fired by their bosses, dozens had their press credentials revoked and homes of many were raided following failed coup attempt in the country.

According to the government, the arrested reporters were part of a vast network linked the self-exiled Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen.

Gulen currently lives in Pennsylvania, United States, and he is being blamed of masterminding the attempt of coup to overtake control of Turkey from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the night of July 16 and 17.

Last week Erdogan also announced Turkey would enter a state of emergency for three months.

The broadcasting licenses of two dozens radio and television stations too have been canceled

Foreign media houses including BBC and The New York Times too have been singled out alleged to have covered in favor of the coup and against Erdogan.

However, many believes the coup was hoax staged by the government himself in order to get an opportunity to crack down over the supporters of Gulen in the country.
