The storm lost strength after sweeping across southern Taiwan. Ahead of it the level was of super typhoon, which caused landfall.

TV footage shows fallen trees, flooded streets, shattered windows and crushed cars too while the rescue operations.

A big part of the Xiamen region is also without water supply.

The typhoon was strongest in the world in 2016 and most powerful in China since 1949 when the Communist China was founded. Fishing boats were called back and tens of thousands of people were evacuated.

Only one person is reported to have died in Taiwan due to Category 5 Typhoon Meranti on Wednesday.

Typhoons are common during this time of the year and they pick up strength while crossing warm waters of the Pacific.

Meanwhile, it is said Meranti will shed strength as it moves toward China’s commercial capital of Shanghai, but it will still bring heavy rains in the region.
