Typhoon Nepartak Hits Hard Fujian Province Of China; 438K Relocated

Six people have been killed, eight missing and over 438,000 relocated amid strong Typhoon Nepartak that hit China’s Fujian province on Saturday with strong winds and heavy rain.

Trains and flights in hundreds have been canceled in the affected area and power stations have been damaged cutting electricity.

Nepartak first hit Taiwan on Friday with stronger impact that left two people dead and 72 others injured.

This is the first typhoon of the season and was weakened on Sunday while making way to neighboring Jiangxi Province.

Emergency workers reached to collapsed buildings to save trapped people.

In recent months heavy rain has become common in the southern parts of China triggering severe flooding and Met department blames the intense El Nino weather pattern. In certain areas rainfall has been up by about 50 percent.

Since June 30 about 150 people have died due to floods, hail and landslides in the country, and 32 million people have been affected.

TV footage shows people pushing cars through waist-high water. A soccer stadium is seen flooded with rain and flood water.

The central Chinese city Wuhan is hard hit due to Nepartak typhoon.
