The dirty war against free press will not be tolerated in the United States and The Boston Globe has called all the newspaper houses, more than 300 in number, to write and publish editorials denouncing such effort of President Donald Trump, who has referred the media as enemy of American people repeatedly.

Deputy managing editor for the editorial page of The Boston Globe, Marjorie Pritchard, said despite difference in views in editorial the sentiment would emphasise on one simple message, the importance of free and independent press.

Editorial of The Boston Globe earlier this week said the center pillar of Trump’s policy is to assault on free press and it is dangerous to let him label free press as enemy of American people. It wrote, ”… it is dangerous to the civic compact we have shared for more than two centuries.”

Similarly the editorial of The New York Times wrote, “News reporters and editors are human, and make mistakes… Correcting them is core to our job. But insisting that truths you don’t like are ‘fake news’ is dangerous to the lifeblood of democracy. And calling journalists the ‘enemy of the people’ is dangerous, period.”

However, Trump tweeted as a reaction that the fake news media is the opposition party and it is bad for America.

The president’s read, “There is nothing that I would want more for our Country than true FREEDOM OF THE PRESS. The fact is that the Press is FREE to write and say anything it wants, but much of what it says is FAKE NEWS, pushing a political agenda or just plain trying to hurt people. HONESTY WINS!”
